Talbot Mayo-Rozelle

Talbot Mayo-Rozelle

Talbot Mayo Rozelle was born into a musical family. A born and raised Marylander with long time roots in Baltimore County, Talbot grew up listening to her dad, uncle, and aunts play bluegrass, gospel, and traditional folk songs late into the night, usually on the family farm, surrounded by family and friends. That's how she learned how to sing harmony. At 4 years old, she joined the family band on the washboard and jug. At 6 years old, inspired by her older brother who was already playing, Talbot picked up the fiddle. Her first teacher was her dad, multi-instrumenalist who taught her to pick out a melody and play a tune. At 14, Talbot picked up the guitar and started playing and signing with other local bluegrass musicians and has been playing semi professionally since. In 2019, she joined with local musician and songwriter, Susie West, who inspired her to sing, perform, and write more original material. The two also enjoy writing songs together.

Talbot started writing songs in her early teens, including titles like "Why'd You Call Me Baby" and "I'd Be Scared To See Me Coming." Inspired by the old-time bluegrass sounds of her roots, her love of traditional country, folk, and honky-tonk music, and even pulling inspiration from alternative rock and roll (a favorite genre), hopefully everyone can relate to some aspect of Talbot's songs. You'll find Talbot's writing is enhanced by her experiences, observations, and the influences of the great musicians around her.

Although she's performed in many different environments, Talbot is happiest when she's playing at home with her family and friends, reminiscent of the days she and her dad, brother, uncle, and aunts would play to the katydids and lighting bugs. Her spirit, style, and songs will transport you there, too.

Susie West is a singer songwriter originally from Monkton, Maryland. She grew up on the east coast playing music with her brothers and working with bands in the tri-state area since she was a teenager. Her style and music roots are firmly planted in folk and country music genre. Over the last 15 years Susie has been traveling, performing, writing and recording with numerous bands across the country.

Prior to moving back to Maryland, Susie lived in Los Angeles, California where she wrote and performed music for both television and film.  Also, while in Los Angeles, Susie was fortunate to perform with, and record albums of her original music with Pete Snell, formerly of the Lyle Lovett band. Susie recently recorded her second album in Nashville, Tennessee with grammy award winning producer, Matt Rollings.

Susie is excited to be home and collaborating with such talented and passionate  musicians in the all originals, Monkton Road Band.

Bill Mayo

Bill Mayo

Bill Mayo is a Maryland born and raised musician, born into a large farming family, Bill's love of music came from his father, who sang at Emanuel Episcopal church in his hometown. Bill’s maternal grandmother was raised above a Saloon in North Dakota and learned to play swing-style piano as a child, Bill started playing the upright bass with the support of his high school band director who also inspired him to join the jazz band.

Bill recalls early mornings and late nights working in the barn, listening to country music radio and singing along to George Jones, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, and Bobby Gentry. His brother and friends who were also musicians and began playing bluegrass music in the 70’s and he was hooked. Bill and his brother, George, were a perfect match for bluegrass harmonies and started singing together. Bill soon picked up the fiddle and mandolin and started writing his own songs. When the next generation came along, the brothers instilled the same love in them and together introduced Bill's kids, Wills and Talbot, to the joy and opportunities music allowed.

Bill began playing bass semi professionally when his kids were teenagers and continues to play with his daughter and brother today. Bill has played with many musicians in the region, including Jody West, and the two have been playing music together since 2014. In 2019, he and Talbot joined with brother and sister, Jody and Susie West to form the Monkton Road band. Bill is also known for his traditional high tenor harmonies, earning him the nickname "High Lonesome”.
